Service users at Working with Words
We provide training to adults with learning disabilities in computer, office and social skills. We have three groups: beginners, intermediate and advanced. We aim to move people through the groups over a period of three years.
The training programme covers:
- Induction (Introduction to staff, premises and each other; Fire Drill, Agreement; Basic Skills, questionnaire and targets for the year)
- Health & Safety
- Working as a Team
- Communication (listening skills, speaking up)
- Making information accessible
- Equal Opportunities
- Environmental policy
- Computer (concepts, hardware, software, opening, closing, files, programmes, health & safety)
Word (open, save, close, files, formatting: bold, underline, colours, spell check)
Publisher 
Letter recognition (Alphabet, name and address, writing letters;
Number recognition (type table 10 x 10. Type in numbers 1 - 100, date of birth (in numbers) today's date (in numbers), how to use a calculator, play bingo coin recognition- Telling the time
- Office equipment (how to use photocopier, telephone, fax, laminator, filing
- Internet (searching information and images, email/attachments)
- Digital camera (taking photos, downloading, naming, basic editing (cropping, sizing)
- Audio (record and edit sound, what is a MP3, download to IPOD)
- Video (recording, capturing video to computer)
- Web site (uploading photos)
- Measuring (for DIY and cooking)
- Preparing for work (CV and letter writing)
- Interview skills (mock interviews and feedback)
